In June 1976 Volkswagen showcased the Type 17 Golf Mk1 as GTI model, featuring fuel injection and launching in Germany before going on to enjoy global success. The Golf GTI had a top speed of 114mph (182 km/h), black wheel arch extensions, a black frame around the rear window, red edge around the radiator grille, tartan sports seats, a golf ball gear knob and a sports steering wheel with a unique GTI design. The ultimate crowning glory of the Mk1 line was the Pirelli-GTI, this marked the first chapter in what remains the world’s most successful compact sports car. This poster depicts the 1980 car with the revised bumpers.
