Specifically developed for the short lived Group B rally category, the 4WD mid engined 1985 MG Metro 6R4 (6-cylinder, Rear engine, 4-wheel-drive) was a world away from the best selling city car which it resembled. The competition car effectively only shared the name of the production Metro as virtualy every bonnet panel was different. It finished third in the 1985 Lombard RAC Rally but success was short lived when Group B was banned halfway through the year. Following the group ban, the 6R4 established itself as formidable rally car and had many successes run by privateers.
