The 911 ‘964’ was 85% new compared to its predecessor, the G-bodied Carrera 3.2,  and the first 964s available in 1989 were Carrera 4 models, until the rear wheel drive Carrera 2 variant appeared in 1990. Both versions were available as a coupé, Targa or Cabriolet. The 964 Carrera was the last generation sold with the traditional removable Targa roof. The 964 also had a new 3.6 litre engine, fully revised suspension, ABS and an electric rear spoiler that raised at speed amongst many other changes.
