Following on from the huge success of the R32, the R33 was introduced in 1993. It featured a much stronger shell, which was longer and wider than the previous generation. The engine spec essentially remained unchanged, but the turbo's were ball bearing and ceramic. The car also received upgrades to the ATTESA-ETS four-wheel-drive system, along with the Super HICAS 4-wheel steering.

Once again, numerous editions and models were offered during the production run, along with a wide body R33 GTR-LM edition, essentially a road spec homologated race car.
